A few years ago on my first stay in Oregon I used to see this house everyday on my 1 hour bus trips from Gresham to the dtp and i would marvel at the balls of the person or persons that were bold enough to build a swastika into a fireplace on a main st in Portland and live up in that piece. I have long wondered in which era the house was built. Was it made during the civil rights struggle? The style says that it may be around 30-60 years old. The fireplace could have been added later, who knows? ( if you do know..holla). Anyways 4 years ago when i first noticed this house the swastika wasn't painted over with a spray paint line through it suggesting to me that someone else has bought the house but they aren't down with the ideology of hate that the swastika invokes. Why would you even buy the house? I would buy the house for irony.Definite conversation starter. Maybe the new owners have done the same. After a failed mission earlier in the day that included a swollen knee and torn shirt, i remembered that i was near the place so i decided to pull up to the house and get a couple of pics.
enjoy...........
